St. Benedict Oktoberfest Menu Will be serving beer Mission Saint Benedict Catholic Church grew out of Saint Mary German Catholic Church that used to exist in downtown Richmond. Many German families, including brewers, were members of Saint Benedict Parish when it was first established in 1911. In 2005, the St. Benedict Oktoberfest was established with the express purpose of helping young members of the parish obtain a Catholic education. All proceeds from each year’s Oktoberfest are used to support direct and indirect scholarships and financial aid to the Catholic schools historically associated with Saint Benedict Parish – Saint Benedict Catholic School, Benedictine College Preparatory and Saint Gertrude High School. Saint Benedict Oktoberfest is held annually in the Museum District on the third weekend of September. The three-day event offers German food, music, dancing, and beverages, as well as the popular steinholding contests, chicken dances, children’s area, and its very own Christkindlmarkt!
